Week of November 17th

Hello JCS families,

Believe it or not, this is the ONLY full week of school during the month of November! After this coming week is the week of Thanksgiving which is a very short week with an Early Release Day on Wednesday, 11/17.

Families can View and subscribe to the JCS Public Events Calendar at https://bit.ly/jcspubliceventscalendar. Click on the "Add to Google Calendar" button in the lower right corner to subscribe to the calendar using your own calendar app. Events from the JCS Public Events Calendar also appear on the JCS website and in the ParentSquare app.

A BIG THANKS to the SPO and the many parent volunteers that helped out this past week’s Book Fair! It was a really fun opportunity for our students to explore new books to read and a successful fundraiser for the SPO. See this month’s trait GRATITUDE below 😉

Monthly Trait, Gratitude
We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude this month as part of the PurposeFull People through Character Strong! One way to think about Gratitude is “choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.” Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and even our Happiness!

Gratitude is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management.

Please see attached a school-wide Family Newsletter, as well as newsletters for each specific grade level.

Please Do Not Pass Mini-buses or Transportation Vans
This past week there have been a number of cars that have passed the READS/DHH mini-buses and vans when they have been loading or unloading. Please be aware of and do not pass any mini-buses or transportation vans that are in the front loop driveway or parked outside of Door 3. This is particularly important because the students in our READS/DHH program may not be able to hear approaching cars and this creates a significant safety hazard. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe.

School Start Times - Feedback Opportunity
Since last spring, Norton Public Schools in partnership with families, staff and the community have been looking at potential changes to the start times and configurations of our schools. The committee was tasked with the following:
  • Research best practices around school start times for students in PK- Grade 12
  • Analyze local procedures such as grade level configuration, transportation, and districting to ensure the most effective combination to support our students and families
  • Analyze current and projected enrollment trends to support decision making for our current and future Norton students
  • Analyze the potential impact of special education service delivery and programming needs
  • Engage our students, families and the Norton community
  • Present the Norton School Committee with a recommendation for our schools

In our final stages, we want to hear one last time from families regarding potential start time changes. This survey will be open until Friday, November 22nd. Please take a few minutes to review some of the options that have been discussed and share your feedback with us. The survey results will help narrow the recommendations of the group to the School Committee
