It's Teacher Appreciation Week and we're excited to let all of the JCS teachers AND staff know how important they are to our students! Thank you to our wonderful JCS SPO for planning specific treats for the teachers and staff throughout this week. We are truly grateful for your thoughtfulness.

Classroom teachers tend to hear the most expressions of appreciation (and those are well deserved), but we also want to make sure that other JCS teachers and staff members are recognized for their important work and what they do to support our students.

Here are the events and treats planned for all JCS teachers and staff this week:

We all know how Mondays can feel! The SPO will give the teachers and staff an extra boost to kick off Teacher Appreciation Week with a fancy-pants coffee bar!

Tuesday, May 6th: Stock the Supply Closet or the Bookshelves 

Let’s restock our teachers’ supply closets or bookshelves with what they need. Suggested general restock items: tissues, paper towels, Clorox wipes, sharpened pencils, sandwich bags, crayons, markers, Expo markers, hand sanitizer, brown paper snack bags, highlighters, pens. Or attend the Scholastic Book Fair Family Night on Tuesday evening and purchase a book from your teacher’s wish list!

Wednesday, May 7th: Day of Thanks 

Let’s help our teachers “get over the hump” by telling them how much we value them! The SPO will send home a blank THANK YOU sheet for our students to show their teacher how much they are appreciated!

Teachers and staff will be able to order an ice cream treat from the Palagi Bros Ice Cream Truck!

This month’s focus is Courage. One way to think about Courage is “choosing what is helpful, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary.” Courage can look a little different for everyone. Get ready to explore as a family what Courage means to you!

Courage is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like

focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.

The SPO is hosting the Spring Book Fair next week! We also have JCS Day scheduled for next Thursday, so the schedule is a little tight. Here is the schedule that we have been able to work out to make sure that Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms all have a time slot to visit the Book Fair before JCS Day on Thursday.

JCS Sea Turtle Day is this Thursday, May 8th. This is an opportunity to honor JCS by learning the history of our school, sharing why our wonderful school was named The Joseph C. Solmonese Elementary School almost 50 years ago, and to celebrate our Sea Turtle mascot!

We encourage and invite all students and staff to wear JCS gear or JCS purple to school this Thursday!

Lifetouch will be at JCS offering school picture retakes this Friday, 5/9, for any students who missed the first school picture day or whose family would like to have their picture retaken. If any family still needs the paperwork from Lifetouch, please have your child ask their classroom teacher and the school office will make sure to provide it. Our Lifetouch Picture Day ID is: EVTH6G2HB.

Nurse Erin is looking for donations of sweatpants, leggings, and athletic shorts to the JCS health clinic from any family that may have extras or “hand me downs” available. Nurse Erin provides students with dry, clean clothes in the event of accidents, spills, or any of the other mishaps that can happen at school. Right now, the health clinic is low on clean sweatpants, leggings, and athletic shorts, so any donations would be greatly appreciated!

The school received a notification from the Norton Water Department in the mail. Even though families may have received the same notification at home, we want to make sure to share the notification with all JCS families.
