JCS "Turtle Talk"

Week of November 30th

Hi JCS families,

We hope that families had time to spend together this Thanksgiving holiday and December is going to fly by before we know it! Please keep an eye on the JCS Public Events Calendar at https://bit.ly/jcspubliceventscalendar for important dates and events.

Outside Recess Procedures During Winter/Cold Weather

While winter is still a few weeks away, the weather is getting colder and it’s time to review the outdoor recess procedures during cold weather. Please see the school website at https://jcs.norton.k12.ma.us/outside-recess for detailed information.

When do we go outside and when do we stay inside?
It’s part of a healthy school day for all of our PreK through 3rd grade students to have daily active, unstructured time to play outside whenever possible. We go outside for 30 minutes of recess every day unless it’s actively raining OR the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is below 25 degrees. If the wind chill/”feels like” temperature is below 25 degrees we will have indoor recess.

What should students wear for outdoor recess during cold weather/winter?
Students should come to school every day prepared to spend 30 minutes outside at recess. When it’s cold outside, we recommend that every student wear a warm jacket, hat, and gloves/mittens. Students should also wear shoes that are appropriate for outside play in cold weather. Students can bring boots with them and change for recess, if needed

Winter Coats Available for Families in Need

Through the generosity of a donation from the Knights of Columbus, we have a number of brand-new winter coats across a variety of sizes available for children. As a school community, we want to help ensure that all of our students have a warm coat for this winter. If your family could use a winter coat for your child, please reach out to Mr. Paul Barrette (pbarrette@norton.k12.ma.us) or Mrs. Kristi Fernandes (kfernandes@norton.k12.ma.us) and we will work with you to find a coat that fits your child. We will keep all communications confidential and we're happy to work with any JCS family. Big thanks to the Knights of Columbus!

SPO Meeting on Thursday, 12/4

The Solmonese Parent Organization (SPO) is holding a monthly meeting on Thursday, 12/4 at 6PM at J.C. Solmonese School in the 2nd floor Library/Media Center. All parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers, and staff are welcome to attend! Our friends at Champions will be offering childcare for any parents that would like to attend and also need to bring their child.

We encourage parents/guardians to attend SPO meetings in-person, but we also understand that's not an option for everyone. We will also be streaming the meeting live on Google Meet via the link below.
