JCS "Turtle Talk"

Week of January 25th

Hi JCS families,

It’s hard to believe, but this is the last week of January and the month has been flying by! Soon we will be celebrating the 100th day of school and Valentine’s Day, so keep an eye out for communications from your child’s teacher about upcoming events and celebrations. The JCS staff may also have some surprises planned as we get into February…

We’re all hunkering down and preparing for “Snowmageddon” and we hope that everyone stays safe and warm. Keep an eye on the district’s website, Facebook page, and the ParentSquare app for information about any potential school closures or delays.

As we try to stay warm inside while the snow falls outside, many of us are looking forward to cheering on the Patriots this afternoon! Fingers crossed that we don’t have any power, cable, or internet outages during the game…

Students Dressed for Winter Weather/Extra Clothes

It has been a very cold winter so far and we have had a number of days when students have needed to stay inside during recess because the wind chill/”feels like” temperature has been below 25 degrees. Even if we may not go outside for recess on days when the temperature is very cold, it is crucially important that ALL students come to school dressed and prepared for winter weather in the unlikely event that we will need to leave the school during an emergency. This week we noticed a number of students who did not come to school with jackets and we want to make sure that all students come to school wearing winter jackets and other gear (hats, gloves, etc.) each day.

Also, if the weather allows us to go outside for recess and there is snow on the ground, students who are wearing winter boots are allowed to play in playground areas where there is snow. It’s a good idea for students to bring an extra pair of pants in the event that their pants get wet when playing outside.
