Starting outdoor recess tomorrow, Tuesday March 10th

Posted Date: 03/09/26 (11:01 AM)

Hi JCS families,

I have toured the blacktop and playgrounds with our custodial staff and they are going to push some of the remaining snow off of the blacktop and create some access paths to both the K-3 and PreK playgrounds. The snow is melting very quickly and it's surprising how little snow is left in some of the playground areas. After our custodial staff make some additional adjustments today, we believe that there will be enough space for students to safely go outside for outdoor recess starting tomorrow, Tuesday March 10th. It's been a LONG winter and we know how important it is for our students to get outside to play.

The expectations for outdoor recess are still the same as earlier this winter:

  • Students should come to school with clothing that will allow them to be outside for 30 minutes for recess
  • In order to play in areas that have snow, students MUST have boots. Students who do not have snow boots will play on the cleared blacktop area
  • For everyone's safety, snow and ice will stay on the ground (e.g. no snowballs, throwing of snow, chopping ice, etc.)
  • Students should bring some extra dry clothes to change in case they get wet. Nurse Erin is not able to provide extra clothes for all students

Please see the school website at https://jcs.norton.k12.ma.us/outside-recess for detailed information about outdoor recess procedures and expectations.

Thank you for your patience and thank you to our custodial staff for their exceptional work!

Mr. Barrette
