JCS "Turtle Talk"

Week of April 5th

Hi JCS families,

We have two more weeks until school is closed for April Break and these next two weeks are going to be very busy with 3rd grade MCAS testing, an Early Release Day this Wednesday, and the Boosterthon/Fun Run. Keep an eye on ParentSquare and your email for the most up to date information!

We wish a Happy Passover and Happy Easter to all JCS families who celebrate.

Consistent Attendance is Crucial!

One of our favorite parts of each day is seeing our students’ faces as they walk into JCS each morning. I’m sharing a quick reminder about how much every school day matters for all of our young learners. When students are here consistently, they aren't just keeping up with their instruction; they’re building friendships, gaining confidence, and becoming a vital part of our school community. If your family is facing any hurdles with getting your child to school, we’re here to partner with you and help in any way we can. Like you, we want every JCS student to be as successful as possible, and that all begins with everyone being here together each school day!

Lockdown Drill on Monday

As part of our district’s and school’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, we will conduct a lockdown drill on Monday, April 6th.

As you know, our K-3 students have already learned about the lockdown drill procedure and practiced with our Student Resource Officers, Sgt. Dennett and Officer Robichaud. Monday's drill will provide our school with an opportunity to practice together, similar in the way that we have fire drills in order to practice how to keep everyone safe in the unlikely event that there was a fire at school.

During the drill, staff and students will practice the standard protocol:

  • Classroom doors will be locked and lights turned off
  • Students and staff will move to a safe area in the room
  • Everyone will remain quiet and still until an “all clear” is given

As with all of our safety practices, this drill will be conducted in a way that takes into account the ages and developmental levels of our students. Our goal is to build confidence and preparedness without causing fear or anxiety. We anticipate that the drill will take less than 15 minutes.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Barrette.

3rd Grade ELA MCAS Tuesday, 4/7 and Thursday, 4/9

On Tuesday, April 7th and Thursday, April 9th, our 3rd graders will be taking the ELA MCAS assessment. Over the past few months, the students have been practicing and preparing for this test. They are ready! By working together, we can make your child’s test experience positive and successful. Here are some ways that we can work together to support our 3rd graders and help them be successful:

  • Make sure your 3rd grader gets enough rest on nights before the scheduled assessments.
  • Have your 3rd grader eat a healthy breakfast at home or be to school on time to grab a quick breakfast from the cafeteria.
  • Make sure your 3rd grader arrives at school on time. The assessment begins promptly at 9:30am to allow students to have enough time and be relaxed while they are taking the assessment.
  • Encourage your 3rd grader to wear comfortable clothing that won’t distract them.
  • If you wish, send your 3rd grader to school with some gum or hard candies for testing days (Lollipops, Jolly Ranchers, or Life Savers are excellent suggestions). These items still need to be nut free.
  • Gently encourage your child to try their best!

Thank you for your support! Please email your 3rd grader’s classroom teacher with any questions or concerns. You can also reach out to Mr. Barrette.

Sincerely,
Mr. Barrette and the JCS 3rd Grade Team

Our JCS Fun Run is Here!

It’s time to rally together for our JCS Fun Run fundraiser! Our goal is to raise $35,000 for enrichment and field trips, which will enhance our school’s resources and provide our students with an even better educational experience.

To make things even more exciting, if we raise $35,000, we will Silly String Mr. Barrette! Last year the students had a blast duct taping Mr. Barrette to the wall in the gym when we met our goal.

We are encouraging you to…
1️⃣ Sign up at MyBooster.com and join the fun. (Need help signing up? View video instructions)
2️⃣ Share your fundraising page with friends and family.
3️⃣ Donate if you are able.

Sign up Challenge: If 75% of students sign up on mybooster.com, the WHOLE school will earn Great Wolf Lodge Day Passes!
Schoolwide Challenge: If we get donations from 30 states, the WHOLE school earns PJ and Stuffy Day!

Thank you for your support!
