JCS "Turtle Talk"

Week of May 17th

Hi JCS families,

It’s hard to believe, but we have just over 5 weeks left in this school year! To assist with planning for all of our families, here are the last days of schools for each grade level/program:

  • The last day of school for the Little Lancers PreK students is Wednesday, June 17th. The Little Lancers graduation celebration is scheduled for Monday, June 15th at 10:00am.
  • The last day of school for Kindergarten is Thursday, June 18th. It will be a full day of school.
  • There is no school on Friday, June 19th to celebrate Juneteenth.
  • The last day of school for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades is Tuesday, June 23rd. It will be an Early Release Day.

2nd Grade Memorial Day Concert, Friday May 22nd

Our 2nd graders have been working hard with Mr. Place and their teachers to learn a special program of fun and patriotic music to celebrate Memorial Day!  2nd grade families are invited to join us on the afternoon of Friday, May 22nd at 2:00pm for a wonderful Memorial Day Concert outside on the JCS playground behind the school. Please feel free to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on the blacktop.

Monthly Trait, Creativity

One way to think about Creativity is “using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.” Opportunities to be Creative are all around us! How can you find ways to be Creative as a family this month?

Creativity is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management.

The Lancer Way

From Dr. O’Neill,

As you know, we have spent a lot of time this year collecting feedback from our school community around our Portrait of a Learner- how we can make it more relevant to both students and staff, the application of core skills at all grade levels, and the accessibility for all learners. I am very excited that because of this feedback, we have been able to create a new Portrait of a Learner - The Lancer Way, which will be soft-launched this spring with a full rollout in the fall.

The first step for this launch is sharing this quick video (only 1.5 minutes!) with all staff and students, which will introduce the LANCER acronym and some student facing outreach I will be doing next week. Your principals will be organizing the best way to make this happen in each school this week. Thank you for your support!
