JCS "Turtle Talk"

Week of September 13th

Hi JCS families,

We’re looking forward to our first full, 5-day week this school year! Please read carefully for lots of important information about this week.

Transportation Challenges

Thank you to all families for your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as the district continues to work through the logistical kinks with both minibus and large school bus transportation system this school year. The district is actively working with Bloom Transportation to resolve these operational and scheduling issues.

Families can find district transportation information at https://www.norton.k12.ma.us/bus-information.

Families can also contact the district transportation office to report issues by emailing transportation@norton.k12.ma.us or calling (508) 285-0100 Ext. 7.

Curriculum Night, Tuesday September 15th

JCS is hosting a Curriculum Night for families on Tuesday, September 15th. We invite all parents/guardians to join us to hear from their child's teachers about what they will be learning and find out more about the resources and programs offered at our school. Here are the time slots set aside for the different grade levels and programs:

6:00 - 6:30 -  Little Lancers, Kindergarten, and 1st grade
Promptly at 6:00pm, families will join their child’s classroom to meet with their child’s teacher and listen to some specific details about what is being taught at their child’s grade level. Mr. Barrette will have a presentation running in the cafeteria throughout the evening to present an overview of the JCS curriculum and programs to any interested families.

6:45 - 7:15, 2nd grade and 3rd grade
Promptly at 6:45pm, families will join their child’s classroom to meet with their child’s teacher and listen to some specific details about what is being taught at their child’s grade level. Mr. Barrette will have a presentation running in the cafeteria throughout the evening to present an overview of the JCS curriculum and programs to any interested families.

6:30 - 7:00, BEST, GRIT, LBC, STEP, reading specialists, clinicians, and special curriculum areas set up in the cafeteria to share about specific programming, curriculum, and services.

We're very happy to share that Champions will be able to provide childcare to families during Curriculum Night! Champions staff will be providing childcare for children in the JCS gym. Families can drop-off and pick-up their child at the double doors of the gym in the main hallway. Champions cannot offer care for infants or toddlers who are not able to independently use the restroom. Champions also cannot offer care to children who require specific medical care for needs like diabetes or who require any administration of medication.

We're looking forward to seeing JCS families this Tuesday evening!

International Dot Day, Tuesday September 15th

It is almost time for International Dot Day, when everyone is an artist! All you need to do is start with a mark, and see where it takes you 🎨🖌️

This year, we will be celebrating Dot Day on Tuesday September 15th. Students created their dots to be displayed in the lobby this week in art class. We are encouraging everyone to wear their best art-ish, Peter Reynolds-ish, or polka dot-ish clothing on Tuesday to celebrate!

School pictures this Thursday, 9/17

The Norton elementary schools’ picture vendor, Inter-State Studio, will be at JCS this Thursday, September 17th to take fall pictures. Your child most likely brought home an informational packet from Inter-State Studio about school pictures. Families do NOT need to order or purchase school pictures, but all students will have their picture taken at school by Inter-State Studios to update their school records.

Families can find information about Picture Day online at https://inter-state.com/order using the JCS code 0674MB.

  • Ice cream can be purchased for birthday celebrations but it will only be served on Thursdays.
  • One ice cream can be purchased per student.

Summer Reading Update (1st, 2nd, & 3rd Grades)

In June, your child was sent home an optional summer learning packet that included: reading and math logs, as well as July and August math calendars. The students were to log any books read, and any math activities completed.  The calendars had fun math activities to complete, along with reading and math resources for the summer months.

If your child completed the reading and math logs, along with the math calendars, please return the packets to their classroom teacher by the latest, Friday, September 18th.

Students who return their packets will be entered into a raffle with a possibility of winning a gift card to The Unlikely Story bookstore in Plainville! Thanks for your support!
