reminder
Hello JCS families,

Here are some mid-week reminders, especially about this Friday's Early Release day.
early release
Early Release this Friday, September 27th
This Friday, 9/27 will be the first district wide Early Release day. During Early Release days, teachers and staff receive valuable time to engage in professional development and to work on things like curriculum. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade will still receive lunch at school. Please see the Early Release schedule for this Friday:

  • Dismissal this Friday will occur at 12:30pm for Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
  • Dismissal this Friday for Full-day and AM PreK will occur at 10:30am. PM PreK is canceled this Friday.

A note from Champions, please make sure that you enroll for the Early Release half-day or reach out to Rachel Medas (ch004945@discoverchampions.com) if you need your child to attend Champions on Friday and that is not a day your child is already scheduled to attend.
traffic
Concerns during afternoon pick-up
I'm sorry to even need to bring this to your attention, but some families have reported that there have been some traffic conflicts this week during afternoon pick-up. Families have reported that some people are not "zipper merging" properly from two lanes to one by alternating cars. Sadly, some families have also reported that some drivers have been swearing and making inappropriate hand gestures to each other during some of these conflicts. Obviously, this is not what anyone would expect to see on the campus of a PreK through 3rd grade school.

We know that afternoon pick-up takes time and it can be frustrating to wait in line. However, I respectfully request that we all have patience with each other, we all follow the drop-off and pick-up procedures listed on the school website at https://jcs.norton.k12.ma.us/dropoffpickup, and that we all model the type of behavior that we want to see from our students.

I would like to think that the conflicts reported this week have been rare occurrences and that this gentle reminder will help put things back on the right track.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Mr. Barrette
